9/18- we made it to Cape Town. The 20 minute flight from our lodge at Malewane to the airport at Nelspruit ended up taking an hour. There was some bad weather that we had to go around which wasn't too fun in the tiny plane we were in. It didn't make us feel any better that our pilots, once again, appeared to be teenagers. We got to Nelspruit and they rushed us through the airport because we were late for our plane to Cape Town. Anyway, we made it. We had a driver waiting for us and we drove to our hotel. Everyone at the hotel was so nice. We asked if our room had a view of table mountain which is just beautiful. Finally the person checking us in asked if we had some kind of confirmation because she couldn't find our reservation. I found my info and gave it to her and it turns out we were at the wrong hotel. The driver apparently had the wrong info. They were so accommodating and called the correct hotel which was very close by and arranged to have them send a car to pick us up. While we waited, they bought us two glasses of wine. They were seriously the nicest people and went out of their way for us even though we weren't even staying at their hotel. We got to the correct hotel and got checked in to our room which does have a view of table mountain. We are in a rooftop terrace room so we have a deck that we can sit on to enjoy the view of the mountain and the waterfront. We had a great dinner. We were going over our last couple weeks since we left Phoenix. We have been on 17 flights, most of them on very small planes. The longest has been about 16 hours, the shortest has been 5 minutes. The longest we have been in any place since we left on August 31st is three days.

9/19- I was able to sleep in until 6:30 this morning. We had a nice relaxing morning and ordered room service for breakfast so we could sit outside on the terrace. It was a little bit cold but otherwise very nice. We had a driver pick us up at 9:00 for a half day tour. We went to the Cape of Good Hope, and Cape Point, Hout Bay, and Boulders beach to see the African penguins. We also did the Chapman's Peak drive which has been rated as one of the most scenic drives in the world. It was beautiful. It was all quite spectacular with views everywhere we went. It was so windy at the Cape of Good Hope that we could barely stand up. We got out just briefly so we could take a picture but that was it. It was also pretty cold. We saw some animals that we didn't even see out on safari. There were some eland (a large antelope), ostrich, the African penguins, and bontebok. We also saw several baboons. We didn't finish until about 2:00 and we were very hungry. We went to the waterfront shops and found a restaurant to have some lunch. We walked back to the hotel to relax for a couple of hours. We walked back to the waterfront area for dinner. South Africa is in the rugby finals with Japan and the game is on tonight. It is huge here, just like the World Cup for soccer. They have a huge screen set up at the waterfront with lots of seating and as we make our way to dinner we have to walk past them. Lots of screaming and yelling! We had a great dinner and then found out that South Africa lost to Japan. Everyone is quite sad. It's already after 10:00 and I'm exhausted. I have a lot of sleep to catch up on.

9/20- South Africa lost the rugby match to Japan last night and I'm pretty sure the whole country is in mourning this morning. They are saying it is the biggest upset ever in history. Anyway, our driver from yesterday picked us up again at 9:00 and we went to Table Mountain. They run a cable car to the top of the mountain. The view is amazing. After that we did some more sight seeing including the Castle of Good Hope, District Six, Freedom Square, and Greenmarket Square. We learned a lot about the history here. After lunch we had a visit to the spa at the hotel.
