9/10- we decided not to go on the game drive this morning since we are leaving around 11:00 am. We thought it would be nice to sleep in past 5:30 and just take it easy before leaving for Victoria Falls. It turns out that it's not really possible to sleep in past 5:30 anyway because the animals are up and making LOTS of noise. In the middle of the night I heard something that sounded like a tree crashing to the ground. The staff said it was an elephant shaking the trees. The sleep deprivation is starting to get to me. The excitement of all of the activities keeps me going but by night time I am beyond exhausted. And of course I still don't sleep well. Our rooms are completely open to the outside with only a screen separating us from the wild and there are a lot of noises in nature. Hippos graze at night and are very loud, baboons stay up late and wake up early and are also loud, then there are the frogs and other various animal sounds that I'm not sure what they are coming from. Before leaving Mombo Camp this morning we watched wildebeest fighting with each other, 9 Cape buffalo grazing, red lechwe, elephants, and hippos from our room. We flew from Mombo Camp to another camp in Chobe and picked up a couple more people then to Kasane where we changed planes to go to Livingstone in Zambia. On the way out of Kasane, we were just getting on the plane out on the runway (Larry and I were the only ones on the plane, which was a good thing because its only had three seats) when someone came running out of the airport to get us. They had forgot to have us go through customs and stamp our passports to leave the country. They had mistakenly taken us out the domestic departures side instead of the international departures side. They were so apologetic but we were just happy they caught the mistake before we left or we could have had a real problem when we got to Zambia. There is a chance they would not let us in the country and we have had to fly back to Kasane in Botswana just to get our passports stamped. The planes are tiny but we fly so low so we could see everything on the ground. We got to our hotel in Livingstone and it is a beautiful property. There were zebra on the front lawn and an Impala just outside our patio. We are right on the Zambezi river, just a gorgeous setting.
