We have breakfast at the Emirates lounge while we wait for our flight. We are flying on an A380 which turns out to be an amazing aircraft. We board and quickly get situated while they serve us champagne and give us our amenity kit with all sorts of goodies. We check out the entertainment system with 100's of movies, TV shows and documentaries, explore the menu (we will be eating our next 3 meals in this seat), check out the lounge area and the bathroom (yes, the bathroom. Turns out I'm also impressed by a good airplane bathroom!). And we're off for 15 hours of fabulous flying.....NOT. The first 6 or so hours go by fairly fast as I watch 2 movies, read, eat, drink and think about getting settled in for some sleep. The flight attendant asks if I would like a "mattress" put on my seat. Why not, I say, this will be my bed tonight. So with my mattress on my seat and with it reclined to full flat position I snuggle up with my pillow for some sleep. Only one problem.....there is a shrieking baby not far away. OK that's not really the only problem ( I'm on an airplane, lots of strangers around me, I'm wearing clothing I don't normally sleep in, and I'm not in MY bed). I figured the baby had to sleep too, right? That baby, cried and shrieked (high pitched, shrill noises) all but about 4 hours the entire flight. It was horrible! I tried putting a pillow over my head, Larry tried noise canceling headphones. None of it worked. So we got very little sleep. We ate a lot of food. Lunch, dinner, and then breakfast before we landed. I drank about 2 gallons of water, and I am not exaggerating that either. We hung out in the lounge on the plane and met 2 guys from Ethiopia. One of them invited us to the hotel that he owns. They were quite interesting, and a little drunk. They had spent 3 weeks in the U.S. and were just returning home. Finally the announcement comes that we will be landing in Dubai soon. Thank you!! I'm ready to get off this plane. A representative ( I know this is a vague reference but I really don't know who she was with I just know that we were thankful for her help) meets us as we get off the plane and whisks us through the airport to the Emirates Club where we will wait for our next plane. This club is huge and has every type of food you can imagine, wine, champagne, anything. All complimentary. And we don't really want anything. We have had so much to eat on the plane and with little sleep, I certainly don't need wine or champagne. I don't know what time it is, not that it matters because the time here is not even close to the time that my body thinks it is. We have about 2 hours until our next flight. We find some comfy chairs and a very large bottle of water and sit in a comatose state for awhile. Before we leave for our gate we decide we better try some of this food. So we eat a little and then go to our gate.
